Service providers increasing security spending through 2012
Campbell, CALIFORNIA, October 21, 2010-Market research firm Infonetics Research today released excerpts from its Security Drivers, Spending, and Vendor Leadership: Global Service Provider Survey.
The survey, published October 15, is one of three security surveys conducted as part of Infonetics’ 2010 Security Continuous Research Service (CRS), a series of enterprise and service provider surveys and analysis on the network security market.
ANALYST NOTE
“Our survey this year of drivers, spending, and brand awareness in the service provider security market shows a continuation of key trends that have been in place for the last two years or so. The three biggest drivers for deploying security remain: threats, privacy, and traffic growth. The market is ripe for a product manufacturer to come out with an end-to-end security story for service providers that offers solutions embedded into network elements, standalone security products for transport networks and the data center, and client solutions that service providers can deliver for differentiation, or even monetizing,” notes Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics Research.
SELECT SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS
All service providers Infonetics interviewed are increasing security spending for the next two years, great news for security product manufacturers still wrestling with the effects of the recession and hesitant SMB and enterprise buyers
Service providers have a wide variety of platforms to choose from when making security investments; the two in which they plan the biggest investments over the next 12 months are Web security and firewalls
When looking at vendor strengths and weaknesses, Juniper and Check Point do the best overall among service provider respondents
Service providers can not afford to stop investing in security solutions because of traffic growth and changes in the threat landscape; security product manufacturers who have not traditionally focused on the service provider space may want to reconsider
ABOUT THE SURVEY
Infonetics Research’s Security Drivers, Spending, and Vendor Leadership survey provides practical, hands-on advice and recommendations to security vendors who currently sell to or are considering selling to service providers around the world. The survey looks at the drivers and challenges of service providers investing in security solutions, their spending plans, security vendors they use now and are considering for future purchases, who they consider top security vendors, and their ratings of 11 of the top network security vendors.
For the survey, conducted in September 2010, Infonetics interviewed network security decision-makers at 25 service providers representing a mix of geographies (52% North America, 24% Europe / Middle East / Africa, 24% Asia Pacific).
